The main hero of the film is Don McKay (Thomas Haden Church), who left his hometown twenty-five years ago. Due to some dramatic events, happened there long ago, he bet never to come back. But after receiving a letter from his former girlfriend called Sonny (Elisabeth Shue), he decides to change his mind and returns to see her.  In her message Sonny tells Don, that she is dying and wants to see him before the death.
Don McKay finds his ex-passion rather changed, as well as the town he lived in. The whole atmosphere of the town and its inhabitants make Don feel strangely comfortless. Trying to kindle the flame of love between them again, soon he gets involved in the spiteful world of this place and may never return to his usual life. Sonny regrets that she let him go twenty-five years ago, and seems to have realized the power of her love to him only being near death.
The film “Don McKay” tells the viewer a dramatic story of romance, love and death, reflecting themselves through human relations. The film was directed by Jake Goldberger and is appeared to be one of those, providing us with a good example of how these relations can be.
