“Princess Kaiulani” is a historical drama, based on real events, happened in Hawaii, 1888. The story of the film describes the unstable position of Hawaii of that time: the paradise, which was at the edge of confrontation between civilians and the Hawaiian monarchy. The rebels, upraising against the Royal family were led by the party, influenced by the American government.
As a result of rebellion the monarchy has been overthrown, and the Royal family has been driven away. The young girl of thirteen – that was the princess Kaiulani of that time - shared her relatives’ fate. She was separated from her parents and exiled to England, for her own safety. Absolutely different climate, traditions and culture and, what is more important, absolutely different society, she got into, could change her character inevitably. But despite all suffers and difficulties, she had to go through, princess Kaiulani remained the person, who thought of her motherland and troubled by these memories. She wanted another future for her country and the people.
Soon she fell in love for Clive Davies, a bright Englishman. A bit later the princess decided to return to America in order to meet with President Grover Cleveland. She wanted to put an end to injustice against Havaiian civilians.
